To help you get everything in order for your 2025/26 Self Assessment return, our team has put together this simple checklist. It outlines the information you may need to gather before we can begin preparing your return, helping to ensure the process runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
1. UK interest
- Details of interest credited to Bank or Building Society accounts. Please forward the annual interest certificate.
2. UK dividends
- For example – Dividend vouchers in respect of any shares/unit trusts.
3. Foreign income
- Interest
- Dividends
- Pension
- Rental
4. UK pensions
- Form P60, certificate of pay and tax
- Details of any state retirement pension received. Please also provide me with a note of the current amount received.
5. Employment
- Form P60/P45, certificate of pay and tax in respect of any employment.
- Form P11D, return of benefits and expenses, i.e. BUPA, company car etc;
- If your benefits in kind have been reported as part of your monthly payroll rather than included on a form P11D please let us know and provide a copy of your March payslip.
- Were any of your duties performed overseas?
- Please advise the amount of any tax refund received from the Tax Office on leaving your UK employment.
- Details of employment expenses not reimbursed by your employer.
- Details of any redundancy package received. Please forward the documentation from your employer, together with your last three payslips.
6. Self-Employment
- Your books and accounting records in respect of your self-employment. Please include all invoices and receipts and if you use any computer equipment and vehicles or other machinery in your business, provide the cost or value and any private use in percentage terms.
7. Land and Property
- Details of property income and expenditure. Please provide your schedule together with invoices and receipts, Letting Agent statements and details of any tax deducted. Also confirm whether the property is let furnished or unfurnished.
8. Income from an estate of a deceased person or a trust
- Form R185
9. Capital Gains
- If you have bought or sold any shares, please provide the contract notes or broker schedule if applicable. Details of any other disposals.
10. Pension Contributions
- Details of any personal pension contributions paid by you, your employer or third parties on your behalf, this includes auto enrolment pension contributions.
11. Gift Aid
- Details of any charitable payments made under Deeds of Covenant or Gift Aid
