Does a sole trader need accounts?

Sole traders don’t need to keep or file accounts by law. However, accounts are useful to help with preparing and submitting tax returns.

How can Seymour Taylor help?

In many different ways, depending on how your accounts are kept;

  • We can produce your accounts manually from a box of paperwork.
  • We can assist with maintaining your records electronically including factors such as registration, VAT returns and complying with the new Making Tax Digital (MTD) arrangements

What’s involved?

Depending on the type of records you keep, Seymour Taylor will analyse and review your financial information to produce a fluent set of accounts.

How sole trader accounts can help you

Sole trader accounts give a clear indication of the financial position of the business and how it’s performing, making it easier to monitor.

If you wanted to sell the business, a potential buyer would want to see accounts to verify how well the business is doing. Also, if you require a bank loan or mortgage, the lender would want to see a set of accounts.
