I started my career in the financial services sector straight from school after my A-Levels as I wanted to experience working straight away rather than go to university.

I joined Seymour Taylor in 2003. Since then I have progressed my way through the ranks from Trainee to Joint Managing Director of the firm with my fellow colleague Liz Horton.

Our firm strongly believe in developing and progressing our team. I hope that encourages and inspires our younger team members that they can grow and achieve what they want to with hard work and commitment.

I joined Seymour Taylor in January 2006 as a trainee accountant and in that time have qualified as an Accounting Technician (AAT), a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) in August 2011, obtaining fellowship (FCCA) in 2016 as well as becoming a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) in July 2013, I became an associate director in January 2020. During my time with Seymour Taylor I have assisted clients of all sizes including those with a turnover of over £100m.

Seymour Taylor has provided me with great progression opportunities throughout my career.

Having studied Accounting and Economics at University I wanted to head into the world of accountancy.

Initially I joined a very small practice and started working towards my ACCA qualification.

I was then given the opportunity to join Seymour Taylor’s growing team in 2014.

Within 12 months of joining Seymour Taylor I had passed all of my professional papers having been given a generous support package including study leave, training at college and being able to book holidays around my exam dates. Once I completed my ACCA training I asked if I could complete my CTA qualification to which the business agreed and a second training package was developed.

I am now a client manager and look after my own portfolio of clients. Whilst I specialise in tax I often work on a range of director’s clients by providing tax advice and planning.

I chose to apply for a trainee role at Seymour Taylor in 2014 as a school leaver and became AAT qualified in March 2017. I then went on to study ACCA and qualified in April 2020.

I work within the audit and accounts department on a number of different clients and projects within the business. A key part of my role is supporting the client managers in the business as well as the

new trainees to achieve the goals of the individuals and the business as a whole.

Throughout my time here I have been supported by various different levels of staff within the office as well as being supported through study packages and it is clear to see that this is also the case for all other staff. Internal and external training is such a huge focus at Seymour Taylor and it really shows.

Kenny Goddard Wagg
Accounts Assistant

Before joining Seymour Taylor, I had worked in Retail Management. I felt I needed a change of direction in my career and made the decision to re-train in a different field.

I began working with Seymour Taylor in 2016 as a trainee. They gave me the opportunity to gain real life work experience whilst studying for the qualifications I wanted to achieve. Since joining I have completed the AAT qualification at Levels 3 and 4, and most recently I have completed my final exams in the ACA qualification and will be applying for membership to the ICAEW.

My current role is in the accounts and audit department where I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of clients ranging from year end accounting for small owner managed businesses to small and medium sized companies as well as working on the audits of companies and not for profit organisations.

Outsourced Accounting Services Assistant

I joined Seymour Taylor as a trainee straight from school in 2015 after completing my A levels and started on the AAT qualification level 3. After completing level 4 I became an Assistant 3 years ago, which meant my responsibilities included reviewing and overseeing accounts work. I have recently completed and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2021.

In my current role I deal with VAT returns, management accounts and I work on our automation team helping and working with clients on accounting software packages.

I love my job as everyone here is so helpful, friendly and supportive when you are studying.

I joined Seymour Taylor as an apprentice back in 2017 initially on the AAT programme, which is a recognised qualification across the whole accounting profession.

Since then I have qualified and am now studying ACA and CTA.

The team at Seymour Taylor are so supportive during your studying and with all the additional training they provide. I am now an Outsourced Accounting services assistant plus I work on the automation and digital side of our business implementing new software’s for our clients. I really enjoy my role and the variety it provides.

I joined Seymour Taylor in August 2021 after completing my A levels. I am now working in the audit and accounts department and doing my AAT qualification.

I like the apprenticeship as I am able to study and work at the same time and I get a lot of experience in the workplace.

Everyone has been very welcoming and I receive a lot of help and training when it comes to using the different types of software we use as well as support on performing tasks in the office.

I feel so lucky to be in the position I am to have the opportunity to train with such a good firm. I really enjoy working here as you feel valued and you are able to grow and develop with all the help and guidance you need.
